Aishah Awan is currently completing her MA in Theology, Spiritual Care, and Psychotherapy at Martin Luther University College. Her studies combine theological perspectives with psychotherapy training, allowing her to approach mental health care from a spiritually integrated lens. She uses various therapeutic modalities alongside spiritual care to provide comprehensive support. In her role at the Office of the AVP Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion at Wilfrid Laurier University, Aishah conducts intake processes, coordinates EDI events, and leads educational initiatives. She is committed to creating inclusive environments and fostering dialogue on equity and social justice. Prior to joining Laurier, Aishah worked at Brock University’s Human Rights and Equity Office in the Gender and Sexual Violence department, where she organized large-scale events and provided violence and trauma-informed support and education. Her professional interests include delivering anti-racist and trauma-informed care through psychotherapy, with a particular emphasis on a decolonial and anti-oppressive approach. This perspective, deeply informed by her academic and professional experiences, focuses on supporting marginalized individuals and communities. Aishah's research interests center on embedding Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion principles into counseling practice, ensuring that therapeutic approaches are both inclusive and effective for marginalized populations.
