I love leading and cultivating high-performance teams that drive organizational success. My experience aligns well with environments that demand team's commitment to application resiliency, observability, and end-to-end ownership of their services. What brings me the most satisfaction is when I can support people in working in an efficient way, removing blockers, improving processes, and creating environment that fosters collaboration.
Building a new team in Prague focused on Identity space (authentication, session management, user data management) for multi-tenant global streaming platform. Global scale platform, Java, Spring, Spring Boot, NoSQL, microservices, cloud, kubernetes, AWS, Prometheus, Grafana, ELK. --- I joined Sky Czech Republic as an Engineering Manager of a newly established team in a department with no previous presence in the Prague's office. As all of us were new to the company, and new to some of the technologies as well, we started looking for additional help. We quickly hired a second Engineering Manager and together we completed dozens of interviews over the next few months. To great success we managed to find amazing people who are now part of our teams. Eventually we also hired a third Engineering Manager to help us manage the teams. Experiencing the fast-growth trajectory of our department's presence in Prague has been an amazing experience, that allowed us to focus on improving not just our hiring and onboarding but building and scaling the teams' culture too.
After transitioning to the leadership role, I got to manage the team I was part of before - an international backend team focused on product-led growth area. Eventually we got to own the full user acquisition journey starting at landing pages, going through plan selection page, and the following payment related journeys. To deliver business value, the team heavily relied on cross-functional collaboration with product managers, designers, and project managers. In order to address competing priorities and put more structure into what grew into a team of 15 members, we informally split the team members into newly created self-sufficient cross-functional teams, with each team having their own dedicated product manager responsible for the area. Even though the individuals got narrower focus, we kept team culture of one team and shared most of the regular technical meetings. Our engineering principles follow the "you build it, you own it" mindset. Engineers are involved in the full software development lifecycle and we get to use modern technologies such as prometheus, grafana, kubernetes, and AWS. The product features are delivered hidden behind feature flags and are often run as AB tests. Thanks to this approach we get to efficiently deliver new features and optimize our acquisition journeys, plan selection page, as well as new payment integrations or various billing related campaigns. The Showmax experience was concluded by almost a year long project of migrating user accounts to the new platform (user data, payment data, ...). Most of my team was responsible for the migration and eventually we seamlessly migrated millions of accounts over a two weeks period and contributed to a successful relaunch of Showmax on the new platform.
At Showmax I worked on multiple services that power the online video on demand streaming platform. Thanks to service architecture I touched multiple areas of backend development - from API design to full-stack web application development using Ruby on Rails framework. Part of my responsibilities also included managing security reports from our public bug bounty program, and having ownership of the security-related processes in our backend team. Towards the end of 2019 I started transitioning into a leadership role. I got more responsibility for projects I've been working on, and built broader and deeper knowledge of our backend systems.
At SoftPoint I was working on multiple projects which were created for specific needs of our customers - primarily to support accounting business processes. We worked in small teams using Ruby on Rails framework as our full-stack development tool.
Development of intranet accounting information systems based on web technologies (PHP, Javascript) with use of Laravel and AngularJS frameworks, and Oracle as database. Part-time job, as I was a full-time student during that time.
