As leader of the micro-CT and SEM facilities I support researchers in using these instruments, organize appointments and manage the respective labs, care for relations with manufacturer and collaboration companies, support other researchers in projects related to 3D-data, and conduct my own research on morphological evolution of ants.
As an International Postdoctoral Fellow supported by the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science, I work on multiple projects on the phenotypic evolution of ants at OIST. My main goal is to utilize vast µCT-scan datasets and the most recent phylogenetic comparative methods to resolve questions about the evolution of the digestive system in ants in relation to their social behavior and diet.
I did my doctoral studies at the university of Jena working on the evolution of ant head morphology with Prof. Dr. Rolf Beutel and PD Dr. Hans Pohl. Aside from scientific work involving several imaging techniques and analyses related to animal morphology and evolution, I also gained experience in teaching, communication, self management and international collaborations.
