My passion for Health and Safety stems from my father who worked his way through the chemical industry as a chemist, into the HSE field and finished as a global HSE Manager. He instilled the traditionalist approach of risk and risk management onto me, of which I have absorbed and modernized. I am reminded of the criticality of my role every day when I return home to my young family of two boys and loving wife. I worked on a brand new design and construction project for a 'super base' in Perth as a Health Safety and Environment Manager. My role was to assist with the design to ensure that it met Australian and Schlumberger standards, whilst incorporating innovation throughout. The challenges faced during the project included dealing with a design team based in Malaysia, assisting in the awarding of contracts and liaising with multiple segments, all of this whilst looking after multiple smaller facilities that would eventually integrate into the new' super base'. During my tenure the project had up to 30 contractor personnel building on site, whilst Schlumberger operations were in full swing, all without any incidents. The segments involved in the Jandakot project were Testing, Completions, Well Services, DT&R, Smith, GeoServices, MISWACO and Artificial Lift, which predominantly service the North West Shelf of Western Australia. The training component and role and responsibilities from an operational point of view mirrored what I was doing in my previous role.
