"Unprecedented" times require recalibration. (Hail VUCA.) Let's recalibrate together. I'm happiest when exploring intersections between complex systems and complex humanity. That can mean framing problems, surfacing uncertainties, crafting scenarios, or coming up with creative strategies and platforms. let's talk.
Perma-lancing with my old agency, using my powers for good. Primarily research and strategy for public health and tobacco control, but also taking part in the social purpose practice.
College Radio, how I love you dearly. As an undergraduate, I had a Friday night show for three years. I created commercials, promos, station IDs, and coordinated ISDN interviews. My senior year I wrote, directed, and produced an original radio serial for the station's inaugural membership drive in 2007, as well as a sequel in 2009. After graduation, I joined the board of Trustees and moved to active involvement after returning to the United States. That's included advising on digital strategy, social media initiatives, institutional memory, and organizational culture. In 2018 I became the president of the board of trustees, and have been focusing more on the nitty-gritty of nonprofit governance. That said, we're keeping a weather eye on the longer-term media landscape and how it fits with the station's educational, student-oriented mission. (This also makes me a pipeline to talented and reasonably hip Princeton kids, if you're looking for people to staff an internship or entry-level podcasting position.)
Synthesis is a strategic consultancy and think+do tank that lives at the intersection of innovation, strategy and purpose driven culture. My work there consists primarily of research and synthesis; identifying the significant drivers of change (social, technological, environmental, economic, and political) and crafting plausible narratives for how these futures play out.
Spent time thinking very hard about how to teach online creative skills development in ways that emulate the situated, embodied conversations of art schools. More prosaically, created new formats for design education at a distance, overhauled capstone project processes, and continuously researched and improved the student experience.
