Studying people is my passion. I am continuously fascinated by the differences that exist across cultures and individuals and how they are expressed in decision making processes. With my background in statistics and data analysis, research, and literature, I am interested in non-profit and public policy opportunities addressing political and economic empowerment, human rights, and education reform.
Engages in weekly discussion with a board of fellows and faculty advisors to execute programming in the aim of promoting a liberal arts/interdisciplinary education in Emory College through the Institute of Liberal Arts. Sits on Community Outreach subcommittee to mentor Clarkston High School students in their college search and application process and Best of Emory subcommittee. Will spearhead a project to promote open access at Emory, including initiatives like filming popular classes and lectures and making class materials accessible to all students.
Tutor (2014-present) Tutors students at local public elementary and middle schools in basic reading comprehension, math, and life skills such as public speaking and financial literacy. School Captain (2015-2016) Charged with recruiting, interviewing, scheduling, and overseeing over one hundred tutors; facilitates communication between school administrators and Emory Reads tutors regarding schedule and policy changes and bidirectional feedback. Membership Director (2016-2017) Responsible for reviewing applications, scheduling, and making large scale organizational changes to tutoring policy.
Works under the supervision of Dr. Jessica Barber to assist Elyssa Hausman with her research project "Social Communication & Attitudes" in data collection, data preparation and cleaning, and preliminary analysis using SPSS. Charged with keeping updated on current related literature while investigating & initiating future research possibilities, including usage of dating apps and its impact on relationship quality (e.g. attachment, communication, empathy, and jealousy). Received CITI (IRB) Certification (Social/Behavioral Focus and Human Subjects) to conduct psychology research on human subjects.
Staff Writer (2015-Present) Provides coverage and reviews of music, theater, dance, and film screening events on campus and in the Atlanta area. Copy Editor (2015-Present) Assists with revision, formatting, fact-checking, and placement of articles & Op-Eds on a weekly basis during production meetings. Editorial Board (2016-Present) Selected to join the inaugural Editorial Board formed to be distinct from The Wheel's reporting arm in an effort to promote fair and unbiased reporting. The Editorial Board meets for approximately 10 hours per week to debate and develop opinion pieces on issues and policies pertinent on campus, in the Atlanta area, and nationally.
Selected to be one of 20 members of a cohort of Asian-American leaders to engage in a 3-day program of leadership development, policy seminars, and discussions with legislative officials on issues pertinent to the Asian-American and Pacific-Islander community, including voting rights and immigration reform.
Selected to participate in a weekend professional conference composed of panels, workshops, discussion groups, and a career fair with consumer product companies at PepsiCo. Examined the dynamics of being "out at work" and how this can be leveraged as an advantage in looking at an LGBT consumer base, particularly in fields of advertising, product management, analytics, media, and branding.
Served as a live-in Resident Adviser to 24 high school students over 2 sessions to ensure their safety, comfort, inclusion, and adherence to behavioral standards. Led cultural excursions in and around the New York City area intended to enrich and supplement students' coursework and introduction to college life.
