I serve as the Director of Digital Learning for InterVarsity, a Christian campus ministry with students and faculty in 1121 chapters on 772 campuses. In my role, I manage the growth of digital learning systems and strategy, as well as the creation of high-quality digital training products. My hope is that these tools equip, encourage, and support campus leaders all over the country, on every corner of every campus. I also serve on the leadership team for the Communications Department within the Operations line. Additionally, I have twelve years of classroom experience in secondary social studies, English, and journalism education. I am certified in social studies and English in grades 6-12 in Virginia as well as K-12 ESOL. I hold an Ed.S. in Curriculum and Instruction from UVA, an MAEd in secondary social studies education from the College of William and Mary, and a BA in history and journalism from Washington and Lee University. I also work as a freelance writer. I partner with strategic projects across the movement to create high-quality digital training products that equip and develop staff, students, and volunteers. I also manage the growth of digital learning systems and strategy, supervise the Digital Learning Team, and serve as an in-house consultant for all national departments.
I supported journalism teachers writing curriculum for the Journalism Education Association's Curriculum Initiative. From 2017-2018, I managed and edited materials produced for the News Gathering, Web, Writing, and Multimedia Broadcast modules. In 2018-2019, I coordinated a differentiation task force that adapted existing lessons and materials to support English language learners and gifted, special education, and middle school students. In 2020, I conceptualized and executed a series of Zoom-based curriculum support discussions, each of which was attended by hundreds of teachers around the country, and developed a full-day workshop for educators using our resources.
I wrote and managed the first iteration of the Entrepreneurship curriculum module published at http://curriculum.jea.org. This includes 12+ weeks of complete curriculum, including lesson plans, projects, and assessments. I also presented at six national conventions for high school teachers and students, hosted web chats, and performed other promotional and mentoring activities.
I taught English and journalism, and advised the newspaper, yearbook, broadcast, and literary magazine programs for Washington-Liberty High School.
I taught world history and government classes, including AP World History. I also created an online U.S./VA Government course through Blackboard with a curriculum development team, piloted in summer 2018. I was a co-writer for the district-wide 9th grade Modern World History curriculum map. I collaborated with several professional learning communities and presented to colleagues about the Canvas learning management system, digital resources, assessment practices, and conducting primary source document analysis. I received training in using the SIOP model for supporting English language learners, History Alive! curriculum principles, and resources from the DBQ Project through Arlington Public Schools.
I served as the point-of-contact for the entities that comprise the Laboratory School for Advanced Manufacturing. I also created interdisciplinary curricular materials to support history, engineering, and science teachers with a focus on reconstruction of historical inventions using 3D-fabrication technology. Finally, I led outreach and branding efforts for the Lab School, including the creation of audio-visual and printed materials, grant writing and editing assistance, and conference coordination.
I taught junior English classes, including one honors class, as well as both of the journalism classes (21st Century Journalism/Digital Media and Newspaper/Yearbook) at a school of 230 students in Easton, KS. I also served on the Technology Committee and the Curriculum Committee and regularly presented to other teachers and the school board about issues pertaining to these committees.
