About

Abhishek Shrivastava, Ph.D., is a faculty of Human Computer Interaction Design at the Department of Design, IIT Kanpur since May 2026. Prior to being at IIT Kanpur, Abhishek has more than 11 fruitful years at IIT Guwahati. In addition, he is the Chair of HCI Professional Association of India (HCIPAI) Steering Committee. He received his formal training in Design and Research from the two most prestigious Design Schools in India - the National Institute of Design Ahmedabad and the IDC School of Design, IIT Bombay. He has been recognised as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) - Interaction Design by the National Program of Technology Enhanced Learning (NPTEL). He is the recipient of prestigious research grants from the Ministry of Education, Department of Biotechnology along with other organisations. He has an experience of working in consortium mode partnerships (with other IITs, Institutions and Industry partners) in three projects under Imprint India scheme. For over a decade now, Abhishek has accumulated a rich set of experiences in teaching, research, sponsored and consultancy-based project execution, and in Institute-level and Department-level administration. He has collaborated with both within and outside institute individuals and industrial entities. He has offered a total of 17 different courses besides collaborating with peers across two different Centre(s)- Centre for Linguistics Science and Technology (CLST) and Centre for Intelligently Cyber-physical Systems for Underwater Explorations (CICPS) at IIT Guwahati. Prior to joining IIT Guwahati as well, he has a series of professional experiences including working in industry and as visiting faculty and being a publishing Cartoonist in different Newspapers. Abhishek’s research focuses on user interaction issues across diverse technology deployments and end-user applications involving Voice Agents and Voice User Interfaces. He is presently considering these interfaces and associated interactions in the contexts of conversation between a human and a voice agent, of hands-free interactions in Electric Vehicles, of design applications for specially-abled children and geriatric population, and in the context of Human-centered AI. Abhishek gladly entertains email with queries from interested individuals, students and professionals.
