We take pride in obtaining justice and advocating for people in litigation and in trial who have been injured or who have been taken advantage of by unscrupulous business practices. While we represent clients throughout Missouri and Kansas and beyond, we primarily serve clients in the Greater Kansas City Metropolitan Area who live in Jackson, Clay, Platte, and Cass Counties in Missouri, and Johnson and Wyandotte Counties in Kansas.
Described as “fiercely loyal,” I have always willing to roll up my sleeves to fight for what is right, even when what is has been unpopular. My background has prepared me well to be an advocate for my clients. I received my bachelor of arts in chemistry in 2001 (with department honors) and my J.D., magna cum laude, in 2005, both from the University of Missouri-Kansas City. I served as Note and Comment Editor of the UMKC Law Review while in law school. After law school, I clerked for the Honorable Laura Denvir Stith of the Supreme Court of Missouri (one of Missouri’s most-esteemed jurists), where I honed his research and writing skills. In June 2006, I began practicing with Shughart Thomson and Kilroy PC (now Polsinelli PC), where I drafted numerous trial and appellate briefs, including briefs filed in the Supreme Court of the United States and the Seventh, Eighth and Tenth Circuit Courts of Appeals. I argued dispositive motions in Missouri’s circuit courts and before the Missouri Court of Appeals. In 2007, I moved to Husch Blackwell LLP to focus on commercial finance, mergers and acquisitions, land use, and real estate. In 2010, I began teaching legal research and writing at his alma mater and served as Assistance Clinical Professor of Law through 2014. While a professor, Aaron gave presentations on effective legal writing and analysis at multiple legal writing conferences across the United States. Meanwhile, Aaron founded House Law LLC in 2012 in order to continue representing his clients. Aaron is licensed in Missouri and Kansas and is authorized to practice before the 8th and 10th Circuit Courts of Appeals, and the United States District Courts for the Western District of Missouri and the District of Kansas.
At the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Law, I taught in the legal writing program and helped students with their writing while continuing to hone my own. I taught Lawyering Skills I & II to first-year law students. I also taught Advanced Legal Writing: Practical Skills to upper-level students. That course emphasized the skills and techniques employed in negotiations and in drafting both transactional and litigation documents. Throughout each semester, I conferenced with students to discuss their writing and how they could continue to improve. Further, I presented at various conferences, including, among others, the Central States Legal Writing Conferences in Chicago, IL, and Lawrence, KS, and the Rocky Mountain Legal Writing Conference in Boulder, CO. Finally, I served on the Admissions Committee, the Inclusion and Empowerment Committee, and the Marketing and Communications Committee.
The majority of my work at Husch Blackwell centered around representing large and small banks and larger financial institutions. I represented lenders and borrowers in connection with all phases of secured-debt transactions. Moreover, I counseled clients on numerous banking regulations, statutes, and court decisions. Further, I drafted and negotiated commercial real estate transactions, as well as numerous opinion letters, both for borrowers and lenders. In addition, I continued to draft motions for summary judgment and appellate briefs, and I represented a multitude of businesses on day-to-day corporate matters, including compliance and mergers and acquisitions. Finally, I assisted my own homes association in creating Greenway Fields Neighborhood Community Improvement District, one of Missouri's first neighborhood CIDs.
As an associate at Shughart Thomson & Kilroy PC (now Polsinelli Shughart PC), I concentrated in commercial litigation and drafted numerous pleadings, motions for summary judgment, appellate briefs, and discovery requests and responses. In 2006, after reviewing my written work for the firm, Shughart’s appellate practice group leader asked me to draft two amicus briefs to be filed in the Supreme Court of the United States. In addition, I argued dispositive motions in several of Missouri’s circuit and appellate courts.
Clerking for Judge Laura Denvir Stith of the Supreme Court of Missouri has been one of the highlights of my legal career. As a clerk, I learned first hand the importance of accurate legal analysis, attention to detail, hard work, and intense legal research. Daily tasks included researching and assisting with drafting opinions, and preparing memoranda for Court circulation concerning grant or denial of transfers, motions, and extraordinary writs. One of the joys of clerking included providing tours of the Supreme Court building for teachers and students from schools throughout Missouri and teaching them about the importance of our court system.
