I am an aspiring corporate solicitor, specifically aiming to work in M&A, Finance & Securitisation, or Dispute Resolution. I currently work on the company law division at the Queen Mary legal advice centre, whilst completing my law with business degree.
I work as a research analyst at Minds of Tomorrow. Constructing high quality reports and articles around legal, political and economic matters and innovations. Requiring me to conduct diligent research and analysis into current affairs, legal frameworks and economic theory. And to then apply this into creative writing pieces, to construct concise reports.
I am the Co-head of Legal & Compliance for the Golden Eagle Society, a banking and investment society, creating market outlooks, reports, future opportunities and case studies. It's my responsibility to coordinate my team to provide legal insights and expertise into the market reports, case studies, and future opportunities documents compiled by the other teams in the organisation. These insights are rooted in corporate law, and capital market regulation. I am responsible for leading the department's strategic approach in our tasks, along with reviewing my departments work ensuring it's up to an excellent quality.
I work with the Queen Mary Legal Advice centre, a legal clinic offering free legal advice to the public, in various practice areas such as: immigration, health, housing, social benefits, domestic abuse, general, arts, and more. Advisors, conduct usually hour long meetings with the client where we ask them vital questions surrounding their dispute, along with background questions. Allowing us to provide them with quality legal advice that is overseen by supervisors, who are qualified solicitors from city law firms. The Queen Mary LAC has won various awards for their continued contribution to the local community and opportunity presentation for students. I have been on the team since the start of October, where I have run and managed appointments evenings. Organising the meetings between clients, student advisors and supervisors. I have also been responsible for putting case files together, recording attendance, rebooking meetings, and notetaking in client meetings. I look forward to my work with them in my second year, as I will receive industry leading education on the aforementioned practise areas and how to advice clients. After which, I will be leading cases, conducting meetings, writing letters of legal advice and working with qualified solicitor to provide award winning pro-bono work for the local community.
I had the privilege to attend Jones Day Open Day yesterday. I was given a unique and interesting insight into the work Jones Day conducts, how they collaborate on an international basis and the unique nature of their training contract. I really enjoyed hearing from Finance partner Emily Stew, about her journey into law at Jones Day. As I hope follow in similar steps. Whilst insights from their trainees, introducing me to the support network Jones Day offers to integrate their trainees into the firm. I found the day very useful, and am excited at the prospect of working with the firm.
I had the privilege of attending an open day with HSFK, which lifted the veil on the innerworkings of their main specialisation areas. Associates within the dispute resolution team utilised case studies to explain the typical structure of commercial disputes, and how HSFK utilises its global network to strategise on such cases. Following that a trainee panel clarified the standards and attributes the firm expects from their future trainees, and their role within the firm. Partners in the corporate team then explained how the firm approaches international transactions: explaining how they shape their strategies not only around client needs, but also around commercial factors as well. There was particular emphasis on post transaction integration, highlighting the firm's ambition to provide a comprehensive transaction service.
