Arvind Kejriwal

About

Arvind Kejriwal is the National Convener of the Aam Aadmi Party which was founded in Oct 2012 after a mass movement across India called ‘India Against Corruption’. Before he entered politics, he worked on multiple citizen issues like corruption in the Public Distribution System (PDS), public works, income tax, and inflated electricity bills through the NGO Parivartan. He also worked on drafting the Right to Information Bill in India. In 2006, he was awarded the Ramon Magsaysay Award for Emergent Leadership in recognition of the work done in Parivartan. He was a bureaucrat before and worked in the Indian Revenue Service as a Joint Commissioner in the Income Tax department. Disillusioned with the system, he resigned from the service in 2006. He is a proud alumnus of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kharagpur. He is a vegetarian and has been practicing Vipassana meditation for the last several years.
