United Kingdom
UK medical student with a strong preclinical academic background and a growing interest in cardiology and research, with clinical experience in both the UK and abroad. Alongside my studies, I serve as President for Neurodiversity at my university, where I advocate for inclusion and equitable support for neurodivergent students. I also run a pre-med mentorship program with over 40 mentors and mentees, supporting prospective students through guidance, access, and academic development. Motivated to continue developing clinically and academically while contributing through leadership, advocacy, and research opportunities.
Undertook a clinical placement within a gastroenterology department as a second-year medical student, gaining early exposure to both inpatient care and endoscopic practice. This included observing diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy and ERCP, with exposure to haemostatic techniques such as gold probe, as well as endoscopic ultrasound (EUS) for diagnostic and staging purposes. I attended ward rounds with the gastroenterology registrar, gaining insight into clinical decision-making and patient management, and participated in multidisciplinary team (MDT) meetings. I also observed national bowel cancer screening colonoscopies, developing an appreciation for the role of population-level screening, early detection, and the wider public health impact in gastrointestinal disease.
Completed a two-week cardiology observership at Aswan Heart Centre, part of the Magdi Yacoub Heart Foundation, a leading institution providing world-class cardiac care free of charge. Observed adult and pediatric cardiology services across outpatient clinics, ICUs, and the catheterization laboratory, including pediatric and adult procedures performed side by side. Gained exposure to advanced cardiac care, including echocardiography, LVADs, and cardiopulmonary bypass systems (Stockert S5). Participated in academic activities and presented the Ross procedure, further strengthening my interest in cardiology.
Held administrative role at a private health clinic, supporting day-to-day operations and client communication. Responsibilities included organizing audit documentation, managing client correspondence, handling financial records, and contributing to community support efforts within the clinic. Played a key role in ensuring smooth administrative and financial workflows.
Completed a hands-on placement combining clinical exposure and academic insight in the field of neurology. Shadowed a neurologist during a clinic day at University College London Hospital (UCLH), gaining first-hand understanding of patient interaction, diagnostic pathways, and clinical decision-making. Additional days were spent exploring the research and laboratory side of neurology at UCL, with exposure to ongoing studies, lab techniques, and the translational aspect of neuroscience.
