"From 8 September 2017, ships must manage their ballast water so that aquatic organisms and pathogens are removed or rendered harmless before the ballast water is released into a new location. This will help prevent the spread of invasive species as well as potentially harmful pathogens." - International Maritime Organization As a self-employed engineer I have been cooperating with shipowners to help them implement ballast water treatment solutions in order to comply with above stated convention. My projects can be categorized into following fields: • System design - comprehensive service consisting of creating feasibility studies, classification society approval drawings, detailed design documentation and fabrication drawings. • 3D scanning - onsite data acquisition using FARO M70 3D scanner. • Installation supervision - onsite supervision of the BWTS system installation during docking period of the vessel. • System operation training - regular webinars with ship's crew members to convey knowledge on principals, safety and operation of the system. My main responsibility as a Technical Documentation Specialist is creating technical documentation for multiple international projects. • Performed twice-daily inspections on all systems on board vessels including but not limited to electrical, piping, hull outfitting and other marine equipment as required. • Supervised function tests of MAN B&W 10MW marine type engine and Kawasaki Diesel generators. Developed and presented results in report documents to engineering personnel. • Provided hands on support and assistance to Senior Engineers and Supervisors with their daily activities and attended inspections during the construction of two 58K DWT Bulk Carriers. • Ensured all work was completed with all statutory and regulatory aspects of OHS&E guidelines, procedures and controls. Reported any hazards and assisted in their timely rectification.
