I am a qualified Australian lawyer with experience in providing both technical tax advice and tax dispute resolution services. My areas of interest include: transfer pricing; tax avoidance; international tax issues; and tax consolidation. In my current role at the Australian Taxation Office (ATO) I work within the "Tax Counsel Network" (TCN), where my case work is sourced from our "International" and the "Corporate Transactions & Investment" work focus groups. TCN is a specialist team that assists in managing the most significant and complex tax issues faced by the ATO. This involves providing interpretative guidance to front-line engagement teams; anticipating, running and resolving tax controversies (including litigated matters); contributing to new tax law; and preparing law guidance products. In my time at Deloitte I assisted clients (principally US-based technology companies) defend and settle risk reviews/audits initiated by the ATO; conclude contentious Advance Pricing Arrangements negotiations; prepare private ruling applications; defend complex transactions subject to ATO review under Australia’s General Anti-Avoidance Rules; defend supply-chains subject to targeted review by the ATO using Australia’s Multinational Anti-Avoidance Law; and prepare transfer pricing documentation.
