Client-facing bioinformatician
As a freelancer, I took contracts in bioinformatics, computer vision and data science. Contracts ranged from consulting services to software engineering. The first bioinformatics contract included consulting services for a multi-omics association study, specifically for parametrizing proteomics data for use in GWAS studies. The second bioinformatics project was a classification problem. The client wanted to know which cell line do their samples come from. The computer vision project I’m currently working on is a object tracking algorithm, with the challenge I’m overcoming being a limited training dataset, and poor video quality. On these projects, I worked both individually and as part of a team.
Consulting Velsera employees on projects combining biomedical imaging with multiomics data.
As a senior bioinformatician, I led a three person team for the integration of biomedical image analysis tools into Velsera’s platforms. I had to research and prioritize tools which bring the most value, at the smallest cost. I collaborated with product and engineering teams. This effort resulted in addition of more than 50 Image Processing tools, analyses and workflows over a year. Some of these we developed in-house, while some were wrappers around existing open-source tools. Besides my duties as biomedical imaging team lead, I worked as an expert for NGS, Biomedical Imaging, and EHR data analysis. I developed custom multi-omics data analysis pipelines utilizing CWL, Nextflow and Docker; custom bioinformatics R and Python Tools, and interactive analyses and dashboards using Plotly, Jupyter and R Shiny. I collaborated closely both with commercial and academic clients, from requirements gathering, through solution design to project delivery. Additionally, I collaborated with management, engineering and product teams.
