About

Originally from the United States, I am a Professor in the Computer Science department at KU Leuven, Belgium having joined the department in 2010. I am currently supervising a team of 10-15 PhD students and post doctoral researchers. The research in my labl focuses on developing novel artificial intelligence, data science, machine learning, and data mining techniques, with a particular emphasis on analyzing structured data. My passions lie in using these techniques to make sense of lifestyle data, address problems in (elite) athlete monitoring and detecting anomalies - in other words, using these methods to solve real world practical problems. I have a particular interest in both sport and health questions. In addition to my university work, I am a co-founder and on the board of directors of the KU Leuven spin-off RunEASI (runeasi.ai), which is a wearable tech company. Our goal is to use wearable sensors and artificial intelligence to provide personalized biomechanical insights to make the world run better. Prior to joining KU Leuven, I obtained my bachelor’s degree from Williams College, PhD from the University of Wisconsin, and completed a post-doc at the University of Washington.
