As the Research Data Steward, I work at the strategic intersection of academic research, collaborative cloud solutions, and institutional research data management (RDM) policies to advance Open Science initiatives across the Faculty of Engineering Technology (ET). I support researchers throughout the entire project lifecycle to ensure both research data and software are made FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable) and open whenever possible. Grant & DMP Advisory: • Advise senior researchers on writing competitive RDM sections for grant proposals of NWO, ZonMW, Horizon Europe, and ERC (15+). • Advise senior researchers on writing Data Management Plans (DMPs) tailored to their research projects (50+). • Instruct PhD candidates enrolled in the UT RDM course on FAIR data principles and DMPs, while providing advice on the DMPs for their specific PhD projects (250+). • Advise researchers on broader pillars of Scientific Integrity, including GDPR compliance and ethical standards. Data Lifecycle: Cloud Storage & Archiving: • Advise research teams on optimal strategies for data storage and collaboration during active research projects using UT cloud storage solutions. • Advise researchers on post-project archiving of their static data assets into UT archives (e.g., AREDA, JOIN) and public data repositories (e.g., 4TU.ResearchData, DANS) to stimulate compliance and data re-use. Faculty Governance & Policy Development: • Direct the updating and implementation of the ET Faculty RDM policy. • Partner with departments and research groups to keep their RDM policies aligned with faculty standards. Training & Mentorship: • Instruct BSc students in academic skills courses and deliver specialized masterclasses to MSc students, instilling core FAIR principles and sound RDM practices early on.
