Prof. Dr.-Ing. Andreas Kern is a recognized expert in heavy plate metallurgy, materials engineering, and process technology with more than 40 years of experience in the steel industry. Throughout his career at thyssenkrupp Steel Europe, he has successfully combined scientific excellence with industrial leadership in quality, product development, innovation, and manufacturing technology. Since 2023, he has also been supporting the industry as a part-time consultant for technical aspects of heavy plate materials and their fundamental product characteristics. Passionate about translating complex metallurgical challenges into practical solutions, Andreas is known for his expertise in high-strength steels, process optimization, material modeling, and quality improvement. Alongside his industrial career, he has built a strong academic profile as an adjunct professor, lecturer, author, and supervisor of numerous research projects, helping to bridge the gap between research and industrial application. His work is driven by technical excellence, innovation, and the continuous pursuit of sustainable and efficient steel solutions.
