Antwerp, Flemish Region, Belgium
Head of the HIV Reference Centre and internist-infectiologist at the Institute of Tropical Medicine (ITM) in Antwerp, and staff physician at University Hospital Antwerp (UZA). I strive to deliver excellent, evidence-based care for people living with HIV, while advancing patient-centred, high-quality research that directly informs practice and policy. With a DTM&H (London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine), a Master in Infectious Diseases & Public Health (VU University), and a PhD on malaria (“Fats & Fakes, towards improved control of malaria”), my career bridges clinical medicine, research, and global health. I have worked across several African countries, gaining experience in sustainable healthcare delivery and reducing social inequalities. My clinical and research interests extend beyond HIV to tropical medicine and travel medicine. I have published widely, presented at international conferences, and remain actively involved in mentoring future clinicians and researchers. Passionate about strengthening health systems, I aim to translate research into tangible improvements for patients in both high- and low-resource settings.
