A detail-oriented chemical engineer, with data analysis expertise and creating customized software, often agent-built these days. I have worked in the food, pharmaceutical, beverages, metals, forestry, mining and (petro)chemicals sectors prior to dsm-firmenich. My writing includes a free, Creative-Commons licensed book "Process Improvement using Data": https://learnche.org/pid and I run a free course on Design and Analysis of Experiments: https://www.coursera.org/learn/experimentation that has been completed by over 2000 people. I'm passionate about learning and applying new concepts, both related and unrelated to my background. I enjoy working on improvement projects and creating efficient and robust systems.
As part of the AI for Creation team we build tools to enable product improvements, reformulation, and creation of entirely new products. With nine colleagues we build on top of complex data systems to solve challenges such as meeting safety goals, cost reduction, portfolio simplification and new product creation with AI and machine learning tools. Our application domains are in Food products, Human nutrition, Perfumery, Fragrances, Cleaners and Beauty products.
Using multivariate data-driven models, analytics, visualization, databases and web tools, my colleagues of scientists, bioinformaticians, engineers and other data scientists jointly solve business problems. Recently using Neo4j graph networks and Natural Language Processing (NLP) with OpenAI (GPTs and LLMs) to augment our toolset to handle text data streams at scale. On a daily basis I use Python and its data science stack, databases (Postgres and Neo4j), Git, and web-based tools (Django, FastAPI & JavaScript) to process these data into actionable outputs, based on visualization-filled (Plotly) reports. Deployment on cloud infrastructure, such as AWS.
Working with professors, TAs and an amazing team to create, support and improve online learning materials. These materials are used in blended, open and online courses offered by Delft University of Technology (Technische Universiteit Delft).
Taught a variety of chemical engineering and applied mathematics courses [Engineering Statistics; Engineering Economics, Troubleshooting and Design; Optimization for Engineers; Process Control; Reactor Design and Modelling; Latent (multi)variable Methods; Separation Processes ]. I was involved in with educational research, particularly in the area of online learning tools. I ensure that my teaching is relevant, and maintain strong ties with industrial partners, and use actual case studies in my teaching, where possible.
ConnectMV provided software, services and courses related to data analysis, particularly multivariate data. The passion was creating and supporting tools for improvement of product quality using tools which have now become associated with "big data".
Successfully introduced a tablet vision inspection system; was also responsible for troubleshooting and process monitoring projects.
