About

Sandy Hook Promise is founded and led by several family members whose loved ones were killed at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut on December 14, 2012. Our mission is to educate and empower youth and adults to prevent violence in schools, homes, and communities. We are the only national organization to take a holistic, public health approach to ending the gun violence epidemic: a combination of community-based programs, research, and policy. With a team of more than 100 people working across America, our dedicated staff and volunteers have enabled millions of people to participate in our lifesaving “Know the Signs” programs. School shooting plots have been averted, along with teen suicides and countless other acts of violence. Real change in how America approaches gun reform and school safety isn’t possible without people like you. We strive to ensure our work environment, programmatic work, and culture reflect the values of race, equity, diversity, and inclusion (REDI). By institutionalizing REDI values in the workplace and in our work, we create an equitable and inclusive working environment for all employees. We commit to understanding, and removing, the systemic barriers that create workplace impediments for current and future historically marginalized communities, including BIPOC colleagues.
