With 37% of CO2 emissions coming from the built environment, we have a responsibility as the leader of light and sustainable construction to move towards net-zero carbon by 2050. But before we can get there, we have milestones we're trying to achieve by 2030. Weight optimization looks at using the least amount of material to achieve the best performance, while also balancing environmental impact. Using a data and science driven approach, Saint-Gobain North America's research and development teams look at how to reduce the weight of a product or achieve the lowest embodied carbon of that product. When they can achieve both, it makes the largest impact to building light and sustainable construction. We live on a resource-constrained planet. Breaking away from the linear economy we've used for hundreds of years and moving towards a circularity of resources. At Saint-Gobain North America, we have recycling programs in place to reduce what is sent to landfill. Our CertainTeed Canada gypsum plant outside of Vancouver celebrated recycling over 1M tons of gypsum back into production in 2023.
