Rutger Dam resides and works in Utrecht, The Netherlands, the very city where he completed his bachelor’s degree in Product Design at the esteemed HKU, University of the Arts. His affinity for crafting functional devices from unconventional materials, sourced from his parents’ garage, dates back to his earliest memories. His passion for constructing things prompted him to delve into engineering, a realm where he honed his skills in intricate mechanical systems and the art of working with metals. Despite the educational richness of his engineering studies, Rutger felt a void in its purely functional nature—a longing for creativity. It was within the corridors of the art academy that he discovered the ideal fusion of his mechanical prowess and artistic sensibilities. In a world where most physical art remains static, Rutger yearns for more dynamism. His creations are centered around movement, a vibrant expression of his desire to unveil the concealed principles of physics and biology through artistry. His goal? To captivate and educate observers as they marvel at his work. Beyond his artistic pursuits, Rutger designs and crafts items for indoor use. He firmly believes that interiors often benefit from a dash (or a splash) of innovation. This encompasses crafting bespoke cabinets to maximize vertical space within a room and conceptualizing aesthetically pleasing lighting solutions that elevate the ambiance upon entering a space.
