About

I joined Natural England in 2019 and although much of my work is home or office based I’ve really benefited from Natural England’s commitment to giving staff three days of special leave each year for volunteering. Those days have taken me to places like Ingleborough, May Moss and Ainsdale, giving me unexpected digital detoxes, full circle childhood memories and some incredible “wow” moments, like discovering UK carnivorous plants and even wild asparagus. #LifeAtNaturalEngland #Volunteering #WorkplaceWellbeing Returning to Natural England in 2022 after retirement was one of the best decisions I’ve made. I’m now part of a dedicated team working on strategic, landscape-focused, and AI-driven projects. My values align with NE’s mission to protect and enhance the natural environment, and I’m proud to contribute—even beyond retirement age. For anyone considering part-time work post-retirement, I highly recommend NE. Purposeful work, flexible hours, and inspiring colleagues make it a truly rewarding experience. #NaturalEngland #PartTimeWork #PostRetirement #PurposeDrivenWork #EnvironmentalCareers #AIProjects #LandscapeStrategy #LifeAtNE I’ve worked in a variety of jobs, from the RAF to corporate roles, before joining Natural England later in life. Things that have struck me about Natural England is the flexibility, well-being focus, and supportive culture. A key example which is personal to me is the work-life balance. There was no part of NE that didn’t appeal to me – especially the training opportunities and career growth even for those without an environmental background. It’s the best organisation I’ve ever known for caring for its people. #NaturalEnglandLife #LifeAtNE #WorkLifeBalance #CareerGrowth #InclusiveCulture #FlexibilityAtWork #EmployeeWellbeing #NatureCareers
