About

The LiFi Research and Development Centre (LRDC), based at the University of Cambridge, is an internationally renowned, leading research centre specialising in LiFi, optical wireless communications and the convergence of radio frequency (RF) and optical communications. We are pioneering advancements in wireless communication technologies by harnessing the power of light to transmit data using our world-class expertise in advanced modulation techniques, signal processing, network architectures and optical wireless system designs, creating a more prosperous world for all. Professor Harald Haas established the centre in 2013. He is the inventor of LiFi, Director of the LRDC and the lead Co-Founder of pureLiFi Ltd. We have published over 700 peer-reviewed papers in leading journals and presented more than 150 keynotes and invited talks at numerous global conferences. Our research has generated impact through pureLiFi Ltd, citations in more than 64,000 publications and 45 patents. Our team has received prestigious awards such as the James Evans Avant Garde Award of the IEEE Vehicular Technology Society and the Enginuity Connected Places Innovation Award. We have won over £35 million in competitive funding. Creating real impact through collaboration is at the heart of our research ethos.
