About

AMAG (Asymmetric MIA Accounting Group) is a combat veteran-led, all-volunteer 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizationrr dedicated to supporting families of service members and volunteers who remain missing in action (MIA) from past and ongoing conflicts around the world. Driven primarily by self-funded volunteers, AMAG conducts year-round research, investigations, field missions, and recovery operations in some of the world’s most remote, austere, and politically complex environments. Founded on a family-first approach, AMAG operates independently and is not affiliated with any government agency. At the request of families, we gather archival, forensic, and field-based evidence to uncover the circumstances surrounding losses and assess opportunities for recovery, identification, and repatriation. AMAG has supported missions and investigations involving MIAs and unrecovered personnel in Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, Papua New Guinea, the Philippines, Poland, and Ukraine. In July 2025, AMAG launched its Special Mission to Ukraine, where our work expanded beyond traditional recovery operations to support the unprecedented humanitarian challenges created by the war. Working alongside our Ukrainian partner organization, Memory Way, and the International League of POW/MIA Families (ILPMF), AMAG supports dignified recovery, transport, identification, DNA coordination, family assistance, and long-term memorialization initiatives for Ukrainian and international volunteers from dozens of countries. Our work includes: • Historical and battlefield investigations • Field surveys and excavations • Recovery and repatriation support • Forensic and mortuary affairs assistance • DNA and family reference sample coordination • International family liaison and humanitarian coordination AMAG never charges families for assistance. Our mission is simple: to pursue answers, accountability, dignity, and the return of the missing—no matter how difficult the mission or how long the wait.
