The Appeals Centre offers users an impartial, expert, swift and cost-effective alternative to courts, and has strong procedures in place to ensure independent and fair decisions. Currently the Appeals Centre is settling disputes relating to Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, Pinterest, Threads and YouTube. In time the Appeals Centre will also settle disputes relating to other online social media platforms. The Appeals Centre aims to: • Provide scalable, accessible and affordable redress for many tens of thousands of users. • Drive transparency on platforms’ rules and decisions, benefiting users. • Inform understanding of trends across platforms as they occur, and inform our understanding of underlying systemic risks like disinformation. • Tell us whether platform’s enforcement measures are effective and whether enforcement is being under or over applied. Appeals Centre Europe is certified to review policy violating content disputes on social media. This broad scope allows it to handle disputes arising from many different kinds of situations.
